A Bai Tu Long Bay Day Cruise from Hanoi: Three Boats, One Long Day
Three Bai Tu Long day cruises from $72 to $90 before transfers: a 12 to 13 hour day from Hanoi, about 5.5 hours on the water, Thien Canh Son cave and a kayak.
A day cruise to Bái Tử Long Bay from Hanoi works, but it’s a long day: about 12 to 13 hours door to door, with about five and a half of them on the boat. Ha Long’s cruise port is about 165 to 170 km from Hanoi, or 2 to 2.5 hours of driving, and an Old Quarter pick-up usually means 3.5 to 4 hours to the boat. The Cong Do area, which cruise lines call Bai Tu Long, is then about 25 km further east, 1.5 to 2 hours of sailing, with lunch served on the way.

Three day cruises on this site make that trip, all to Thien Canh Son cave and a kayak. The one pinned here costs least: Vietnam Tourism & Service’s day cruise, from $72 on the booking platform when we checked. The seller is a private tour company, whatever the name suggests. It has 18 reviews so far, rated 4.6. “Lovely quiet part of the bay,” one reviewer wrote in September 2026. Lunch, entrance fees, kayaking, a guide and drinking water are included, and the Old Quarter transfer is an option at extra cost.
How far Bai Tu Long Bay is from Hanoi
Two legs: about 165 to 170 km by road to the Ha Long International Cruise Port at Bai Chay, in Quang Ninh, then about 25 km by boat. The official Bai Tu Long Bay, off Van Don, is further still, and no day boat here goes there; Bai Tu Long Bay vs Ha Long Bay explains the difference. All three boats keep much the same timetable.
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 07:00–08:00 | Old Quarter pick-up, if you’ve booked a transfer |
| 11:40–12:00 | Meet in Bai Chay and board |
| 12:30–13:30 | Lunch on board, sailing out past islets |
| 14:00–14:30 | Thien Canh Son cave, then kayaking |
| 15:00 | Back aboard for the sail to port |
| 17:30 | Ashore at the cruise port |
| About 20:00 | Back in the Old Quarter |
Thien Canh Son is a climb up stone steps to the cave mouth, with a view back over the bay, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Vietnam Tourism & Service says its trip doesn’t suit people with mobility impairments. The kayak is short: “time was tight since the journey to the bay is long,” a November 2025 reviewer wrote. And don’t count on a swim. “Too bad we weren’t allowed to swim,” wrote another in August 2026.
How much is a day trip from Hanoi?
| Seller | Meet | From | Hanoi transfer | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vietnam Tourism & Service | Cruise port, 12:00 | $72 | Option, extra cost | 4.6 (18) |
| Local Tours Vietnam Limited Company | Cruise port, 11:50 | $78 | $50 a person | 4.7 (13) |

The booking platform’s “from” prices per person, October 2026.
All three include lunch, kayaking, a guide and the entrance or sightseeing ticket; the official day fee for route 4 is 200,000 dong a person (October 2026). Other drinks are extra on all three, and Authentic Travel DA NANG adds a holiday surcharge. With its limousine, the $78 cruise comes to $128 a person.
Two listings, perhaps one boat
Local Tours Vietnam Limited Company and Authentic Travel DA NANG print the same timetable, down to the islets and the times, for a boutique Indochine-style boat taking up to 35 guests (the second listing also says 36). The first calls it La Muse. One of its reviewers called it the Indochina Junk, and the second seller gathers guests at the Indochina Junk office. They may be the same boat sold by two sellers, so compare what each price includes: $78 at the port with a $50 limousine on top, or $90 at the office, with a Hanoi pick-up at extra charge. Their reviewers counted 10 and about 20 people aboard.
Is a day cruise enough?
For a first look, yes, if you can take the hours. You get about an hour at the stop itself, the cave and then a paddle, and the rest is lunch and karsts from the deck. What a day can’t give you is the night: an afternoon kayak at Cap La, then the cave early next morning, hours before the day boats arrive. A one-night cruise does all that in about 22 to 23 hours aboard, and the best Bai Tu Long Bay cruise compares them.
For a day out from Hanoi with the transfer handled by the same seller, the Vietnam Tourism & Service cruise is the easy booking, and the cheapest.
